Produced by Calgary’s Festival of Animated Objects
This engaging cabaret of stories is co-hosted and emceed by Jen Bain and her puppet Louis the Cat – it’s a purrfectly delightful afternoon full of stories, puppets, masks, and music!
Louis the Cat will first introduce audiences to Peter & the Wolf, a classic tale re-told for you through the magic of puppetry, by The Long Grass Studio. Originally written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936, this heartwarming story-with-music is about a spunky little boy and his animal friends, who outwit and capture the big scary wolf that haunts their home. This retelling of the story will be performed with eight original handcrafted puppets. Each puppet character is represented by an instrument in the orchestra. you and your children will delight in the magical energy puppets and music bring together.
Following this 30-minute re-imagined classic, Louis the Cat will then introduce you to 3 different Mask Tales. These short stories (each is under 10 minutes in length) feature performers in mask. They use dance and theatre to bring you three lively, jazz-fueled stories about the wonder of a good discovery. Recently, these Mask Tales stories have been performed at Springboard’s ContainRFest, Calgary Folk Music Festival, and The Coutts Centre for Western Heritage. A playful and engaging cabaret of marvellous stories for you and your children.
